Letter Writing Tips for Spanish Writers
If you're looking for a reference book that will allow one to write the perfect letter in Spanish, then this 94-page book is for you. Author Mary H. Jackson does an excellent job of providing examples of letters written for personal and business purposes. This book, which is published by the great reference staff at Passport Books, is an inexpensive and useful guide to allow anyone to write letters in Spanish with little or no help at all. Of course, it would be helpful to have knowledge of the Spanish language before writing any letter, however if you're a student or someone who communicates infrequently with a pen pal, friend, or anyone else in Spanish, this book will allow you in your letter writing.

The book's compact size and price are extra reasons to purchase it. I also recommend "Cassell's Colloquial Spanish: A Handbook of Idiomatic Usage" if you want to improve your grammatical knowledge of Spanish. "Cassell's Colloquial Spanish" is the best book on Spanish grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure on the market, and addition with the "Guide to Correspondence in Spanish," I can guarantee that you will be writing like a professional is a matter of time.

Great Reference Guide
This book is a great reference guide to writing business correspondence in Spanish. It provides example letters that can be used in developing correspondence which recognizes the cultural differences in the style and structure between letters written in Spanish and English. This book has been very useful in my work of responding to customer billing disputes.

A Spanish-language guide to the art of writing letters.
"Guide to Correspondence in Spanish / Guia de correspondencia espanola" is a very up-to-date and useful guide for writing all kinds of letters in Spanish. While the title suggests that the book might be completely bilingual, the book is written entirely in Spanish. There is a bilingual glossary included, but the text itself is not translated to English. This book can be used by anyone with a good knowledge of written Spanish. It provides the fine points of etiquette and proper format for writing both business and personal letters. Best of all, the book includes many sample letters and lists of useful phrases and abbreviations. Each chapter includes practice exercises which make the book potentially useful as a text book

Hangsaman

Average review score:

Disturbing and frightening
This was a great book I think about a girl going insane. The small vignettes of reality are intertwined with a seemingly lesbian like nightmare. I wish this author had been more prolific, however she had a lot of problems of her own. Her biography is fantastic and sad.

Puzzeling, troubleing and captivating
[...] I have to admit out front that the reading experience was not totally enjoyable. On the contrary, although the book is very readable I found myself sitting on edge wondering what will happen next. What horrible things are now to happen? You expect the worst.
It is not that anything horrible or sickening does happen. This is not a "horror" book in this sense - the horror is more inside your brain and your uncomfortable feelings. You feel uncomfortable because something wrong is happening and you do not always know how to point it out.
Do you know the feeling you get when you are having a conversation with someone and only after you end the talk you say to yourself that he said or hinted things you should not have tolerated and that you should have reacted differently... or maybe that the message delivered was not what you initially had in mind and then you are very upset at yourself for not crying out and saying this or that...? Well this is my attempt to describe some of the emotions this book has evoked in me.
However, having said this, I think that the uncomfortable feeling is exactly what the writer has tried and succeeded in creating and thus the reading is worthwhile. It is like being in another mind which is both similar and different from your own. So many things are familiar and so many thoughts are thoughts you have thought before; and yet, so many actions and reflections are so totally unusual....so defying .
Natalie, the main character is not someone I like (why? because I cannot understand her; because she upsets me. I kept thinking "Can't you see this is dangerous; why aren't you more careful of the other girls... " ). However, she seems so troubled you do not want anything bad to happen to her. You also share Natalie's confusion - the theme of "did THIS happen or not" and "am I really here" is very strong throughout the book and the reader is a true participant in this sense. You are not sure if the things described did happen or not? If the characters did exist (the girl Tony - is she real or is she an imaginative friend? A close soul mate everyone wishes for, someone who can read your brain, even the hideous things in your mind ) and what are their motives? You can only guess. And maybe nothing really happened? The terror is really subdued and is sometimes conveyed in seemingly innocent (women) conversations. These polite dialogues can be very cruel and someone is sure to be stabbed in the back.
I despised Natalie's father. This person sees everything as a life experience you must endure in order to grow up and be a "better person/writer/critic" and thus although he can see Natalie has problems in college his only words are that this is a good experience for her. He has no empathy. He is a person which is so self centered he has no time for sympathy / real emotions or real communication. I think that he sees Natalie as his creation and this self centered feeling he confuses with love. I see the father as the true villain of this book and I blame him for most of the bad things Natalie has to endure.
Natalie is alone in the world (at least this is how she feels).
I am tempted to write "aren't we all... " - we all spend our lives in trying not to be and this is why Hangsaman is such a troubling story.
Bottom line of this depressing review is that I do reccomend the book. Its a book that stays with you.

A haunting yet confusing novel that I could not put down
I am giving this book 5 stars even though I did not understand the ending at all; only Shirley Jackson is capable of winning my praises in spite of my confusion over her work. This book is quite difficult to review; I cannot give voice to my questions without potentially giving something away to the reader (if it is even possible for me to give away something I never really "got"). Natalie is an unusual young lady. Her mother is unable to express her love to her, and her father spends his time training her for a life of writing and affable intellectualism. He daily meets with Natalie to review things she has written and to converse on an adult, though instructional, level. He is a writer of sorts and has frequent parties; Natalie is allowed if not encouraged to engage in adult conversation, drink, and smoke. Natalie lives in two worlds at once; she is constantly imagining vivid exchanges between herself and others--particularly a cop trying to make her confess to a murder. At one party, she is led off into the woods by an older man, and something important and probably not good happens to her--she constantly pretends that nothing happened, but an important change in her begins at that point. As she goes to college, she changes drastically. She is unhappy at school; the other girls are silly, conniving, vain, deceitful, etc. She becomes friends with her English teacher and his wife, both of whom are dysfunctional human beings; the teacher is especially bad and spends way too much time drinking and meeting his young female students outside of class. Although she seems to adapt to college and make some friends, her personal struggles take a turn for the worse; this process is accelerated when she meets a strange girl named Tony, endures the laughter her classmates direct toward her, and isolates herself more and more from those around her. Tony's influence helps set the stage for the conclusion of the story.

I imagine that loners like myself will strongly sympathize with Natalie and her struggles. I was amazed to see her expressing thoughts I myself have at times: Am I really here? Am I really alive or just dreaming that I am alive? Are the people around me real or are they just "actors" in the performance that is my life? Are they all conspiring against me and plotting my downfall? If I think of something today that I have not thought of in a long time, will I not encounter (and thus have created by my thoughts) that thing tomorrow? Natalie clearly deteriorates mentally as the story progresses, but I (like her) am left with questions about the events described--What was real and what was not real? What really happened with the man in the woods? Was Tony real? To what does the title Hangsaman really refer? There are many questions I am left to ponder after finishing this book. I can't say that the ending was bad; my expectations were proven wrong, which is always a good thing about a book's conclusion. If the whole story had been explained in detail, I realize that its effects on me would have been minimal, whereas my questions will keep the story in my mind for some time to come and will probably compel me to re-read the novel at some point in the future. Shirley Jackson tells a gripping story and makes Natalie a character I strongly liked, sympathized with, cheered for, and worried about. The writing is really quite magical and unlike anything else I have read from other writers. As weird as the story and characters sometimes are, you still feel a close, emotional connection with both. The writing is so powerful that it is quite capable of bringing on anxiety attacks of a sort for this reader. Jackson's writing is equivalent to a roadside accident--although you may see something unpleasant, you have to look, and then it is all but impossible to ever look away. In its own way, Hangsaman is as good a read as The Haunting of Hill House and We Have Always Lived in the Castle.

Misti Jackson's HELP FROM ABOVE is similar to the well-loved television drama "Touched By An Angel." It contains all the warm heart-felt elements, which will keep readers spellbound until the last page is savored and enjoyed.

After the tragic death of his parents George Billington escapes his grief through drugs and alcohol. Knowing his addiction will eventually lead to his destruction, an angel suddenly appears hoping to be in time to save his soul.

Ronald is the angel assigned to help George beat his harmful addictions. With his holy guidance, he hopes he is not too late to assist him in conquering his addictions and moving forward with his life.

Upon meeting George, he quickly realizes his case is far more serious than he alone can handle. He makes the decision to enlist the help of George's sister, Karen Billington and a trusted priest, Father Timothy Gill. Together will the three be able to unite and save George from his wicked wayward ways? Or will it mean the ultimate downfall of them also?

HELP FROM ABOVE is powerfully written. This gripping emotional story presents a realistic glimpse into the sufferings of drug and alcohol abuse. Readers will walk away feeling as though they witnessed a miracle as the ending dramatically closes.

Horse Owners Guide to Natural Hoof Care
Published in Paperback by Star Ridge Publishing (October, 2002)

SAAAWWWWEEEEEEETTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This book IS awsome!!!!!!It's the best!!Jaime's books are ALL you need to have a horse,So go out and buy it!!!!!

A New Concept in Hoof Care
This book on natural hoof care for your horse is a revelation to all of us who have blindly followed the tradition of shoeing our horses. Being a relatively new horse owner (two years) I had no idea letting my horse go shoeless could be possible. He's one of these sensitive types that can barely walk due to excessive sensitivity when his shoes are removed. Mr. Jackson says this is not natural but has been created by the use of shoes on the horse. This has caused the soles of his hoof to be sensitive and the walls of his hooves to be too thin. This can all be corrected by removing the horses shoes and trimming them properly, something Mr. Jackson describes in his book as power trimming. The goal is to eventually have the horses hooves resemble that of wild horses which Mr. Jackson has studied extensively. He describes in this book how to accomplish this, with lots of pictures and background information. He has chapters on what a natural hoof looks like and what an un-natural (shoed) one looks like, as well as chapters on tools required, how to handle difficult horses, how natural hoof care can conquer problems like laminitis, navicular, hoof contraction, sole abscesses, white line disease and others. There's also a good appendix in the back on where to get addtional info on learning more about this exciting process. I'm really excited about the possibilities for my horse, I'd love him to be in a more natural state and not have to rely on shoes for the rest of his life and with Mr. Jacksons guidance, I think it might be possible. I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for a more natural alternative to shoeing. Happy trails! Buff C. Barr

Important news for horseowners
Jaime Jacksons study of feral horses led him to the knowledge contained in his first book, The Natural Horse. In his latest work he guides horseowners through a very difficult transition. There exists a deeply ingrained tradition and blind acceptance of the ancient practice of shoeing horses. Unfortunately shoeing horses is not good for them. Jaime explains why shoeing is detrimental. In a very clear and concise way Jaime walks horseowners through the education and practical processes of deshoeing. Every horseowner owes it to themselves and their horses to at least read this book.

I AM: 365 Names of God
Published in Hardcover by Streams Pubns (02 December, 2002)
Author: John Paul Jackson
Average review score:

Delight in God's Presence!
I don't know why or how but when I read out loud any 5-10 names of God, I feel God's presence. May be it was just me I thought. So I let my friend borrow it and told him to read it out loud during his devotion and he felt the presence of God as well.

It is a simple book, on one page it has a name of God such as "I am the friend of sinners" and one bible quote to back up the name, yet so powerful. I must be invoking something spiritual when I verbalize the names of God. I don't get it, but who cares, I simply delight in the presence of God.

Resplendent!
I was in Chicago last year, when I first heard John Paul Jackson read the names of God. The Presence of God pervaded the atmosphere. Hundreds of people were deeply moved by the Presence of the Holy Spirit. I could do nothing other than fall to my knees and weep. I will never forget it.

When I learned that the book was available, I could hardly wait to read it. I regularly walk through my home, reading the names of God. As I do, I am aware that He comes to fill the spaces of my daily life as personally and powerfully as He did that Saturday night in Chicago.

I love to meditate on the names of God, because I am aware that as I do so, He is smiling and keeping a record of it. It is such a simple way to bring joy to the heart of my Heavenly Father. For me, it brings an immense awareness of His love, strength to my spirit, focus for my mind, and an increase of faith.

The author has identified 365 names of God and suggests that the reader meditate on a different one each day. When I pick up the book and begin to read, I cannot stop with just one. I usually do not put the book down, until I have read them all.

Five stars seem too few to rate how highly I esteem this author and I AM.

Impacting!
The content of this book brings to life the very nature of who God is. It is as simple as a few words a day and yet it is as deep & insightful as you allow it to be in your life. The choice is yours. God always meets you where you are. This book visually reflects the excellency of who God is, making it a joy to pick this book up daily.

"I Can't Believe It! Michael Jackson": Michael Be Strong
Published in Paperback by Dorrance Publishing Co (October, 1996)
Author: Telia Diane Perryman
Average review score:

A truley revultionary collection of love and support!
Few published books of poetry have left me this teary eyed, I feel like I might just be born again. I, like many other avid entertainment critics, had banned Michael jackson, or anything he was connected with. But this thoughtful, touching and down right spine tingling collection has changed my mind forever. Telia Perryman sings in this book, even better than Michael himself and it has showed me that there is nothing more spectacular than a fan with too much time on her hands and too many good ideas to write down. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Perrymans work, and can only hope that she may put out more riviting books on different role models like Keith Richards or Boy George. This is a must for the coffee table, poetry clubs and casual toilet reading.

Hemingway and Thoreau - LOOK OUT!!!
Every poet in America might as well give it up right now - Telia Perryman has everyone beat! Her work is so amazing! I can't believe that it is real! She is my idol. A true living legend! I read her book everyday. My favorite poems are "The World" and "Pick a Flower". These are the most inspiring works of poetry ever created! Thank you Telia for all your beauty!

The most wonderful collection of poetry I've ever seen.
"The world is a circle; the world is not a square. the world is itself, the world has Michael Jackson in it"

As you can see by this most heart felt quote from the poem "The World", Ms. Perryman has a true gift for words and expression. I believe this collection to be a true work of genious. I purchased several copies myself and have passed them out to friends as gifts. It is my favorite party past time. When I'm feeling disenchanted with the world, I simply pick up this amazing text, and I am once again set free through the beauty of her words. We should all be thankful that the world has Telia Perryman in it (forget about Michael Jackson - Telia RULES!)

Isaac Asimov's Guide to Earth and Space
Published in Audio Cassette by Dove Books Audio (October, 1991)
Authors: Isaac Asimov and Michael Jackson
Average review score:

3 generations of the Andersons agreed this is GREAT!
I first read this book at about age 35. Then lent it to my 66-year-old father. Just as was I unable, so, too, was he unable to put it down for more than a meditative moment to complicate Asimov's musings.

After Dad read it I loaned it to my older son, then aged 12. He had the same addiction as Dad and I.

The three of us are not prone to dwell on science, history, or anything of great consequence often, but we still frequently discuss topics first brought to our attention by probably the greatest, and certainly one of the most prolific and diverse writers in history.

I challenge any reader to not contemplate many of the thoughts expressed by Asimov in this fascinating and intriguing book.

Asimov and Hawking were probably the two most intelligent science writers of the 20th Century. Asimov alone, however, also was a skilled writer of history and fiction.

Required reading.
This is the quick reference handbook for our universe, written in simple and concise language (only 252 pages). It should be required reading in high school. Everyone should possess this knowledge. Read this book and see the big picture.

Brilliant
If you've ever looked up in wonder at the stars in the night sky, or puzzled over the origins of the Earth, this is the book for you. A fabulous journey through centuries of scientific curiosity and discovery that left me wishing for more!

Japanese Cabinetry: The Art & Craft of Tansu
Published in Hardcover by Gibbs Smith Publisher (15 November, 2002)
Authors: David Jackson and Dane Owen
Average review score:

The cover alone should be enough to interest you
Not even sure where to begin other than to say that as mentioned above, the cover alone should be plenty to strike your interest. As a true lover and collector of Japanese art, this book goes above and beyond to show just exactly why it could be labeled as a "coffee table book". It has been on mine for weeks now. It is such a great sourcebook for Japanese cabinetry/tansu and goes even further to show pieces actually used for daily use in people's homes. The size of the book and the photography are SO worth the price. It truly is a fabulous book. I strongly recommend it. Whether you are an obsessed collector of Japanese art or not, it is definitely a great book to have in your collection.

I Recommend this book.
I have been dealing in these sort of things for some time , yes.The collection displayed here is of good quality and is quite a nice representation of what's available.A good book .

Excellent Reference Guide.
I have fortunately been able to read an advance copy of this book . The book is well researched with more relevant detail on wooden Japanese Furniture than all previous publications combined. I was able to identify and date several pieces in my collection , as well as find out that I had been misled by some Japanese dealers with regard to age and origin . Now it is much easier to identify Tansu in it's historical context . Who would have guessed that Politics played an important part in Tansu usage and design , or that streets became clogged with Tansu during emergencies , causing many more deaths and the rewriting of local laws . This book tells it all.
